Greystone by the Numbers (our last 2015 edition) is an admittedly convoluted way to introduce you to another side of our team! These brief “interviews” begin by putting everyone’s name in a numbered list and a number randomizer is used to pick 3 “chosen ones” each month. After those 3 have been chosen, they select 5 numbers from 1 to 75, each corresponding to a question which was unbeknownst to them. What happens next…is for your reading pleasure.
Scott Kerr, Web Developer
If you could have a drink with someone from history, who would it be and why?
David Hume. His book Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion probably influenced me more than any other. Then again, having a white russian with Jeff Bridges would also be pretty great.
What is your hidden talent?
I tend to not to hide my talents because I am a showoff. (Editor’s Note: One of Scott’s not so hidden talents is playing in this band…they call themselves Five Iron Frenzy… you might have heard of them)
What nickname(s) do you have?
I always wanted an epic nickname like “T-Bone” or “Bruiser”…Alas, no such name has ever been bestowed upon me. I’d even settle for “Koko the Monkey” at this point.
When in your life have you had a “now or never” moment?
December of 1996. I quit my job to start touring in a band.
What class in school has proven to be the least useful?
Art History has probably been the least useful, but that’s not to say I regret taking it.
Zac Horton, Tech Engineer
What are 3 things you cannot live without?
Snowboarding, beer, and fast cars.
What song do you love to sing to in your car?
Can I just insert this link? Pretty much…
What would you do if you were invisible for a day?
Rob banks and give to the poor!
Where would you like to go that is “off the beaten bath”?
What is the best lie that you have ever told?
I don’t lie often, but when I do it’s to my Grandmother about the sweater she got me.
Peter Melby, President
Well, this is an awkward question considering I have a wife and three kids. I suppose it depends on the situation. The little one can’t fend for herself but she’s hilarious. My son can’t keep quiet, so he’d blow our cover, but he’s pretty good with a lightsaber. My oldest daughter is the most loyal and I don’t ever worry about her turning on me. My wife…well I won’t even go there. I’ve had all 3 kids to myself before. It’s ugly. I’m going to stop answering this before I say something one of my kids shouldn’t grow up to read on the internet.
Where would you like to go that is “off the beaten path?”
I’d love to visit all of the continents and all of the oceans before I’m 40. Turns out Antarctica is hard to get to. Still figuring that one out…
If you could trade lives with one person for an entire day, who would it be and why?
I love music. I’d give up a lot to have musical ability. I just watched the documentary on Elliott Smith, one of my all-time favorites. I’d love to understand his mind for a day as long as it was a day early in his career. Before the drugs…when he wrote his best music…and not the day he killed himself.
What is the most unhealthy thing you have eaten?
Since I was young, I’ve been a connoisseur of fine (cheap) nacho cheeses and quesos. When I lived in Montana, I went to the pretzel place in the mall at least twice a week to enjoy my favorite nacho cheese. After realizing how expensive that is, I convinced the kid working there to spill the secret that the cheese was called “Que Bueno” (yes, really) and that it was available in commercial size cans at Costco. Score! My wife now forbids me from purchasing the gigantic aluminum tub of cheese. Well, she doesn’t forbid me. We don’t have that kind of relationship. She probably just politely suggested she might not want to be married to me if I bought it again.
What is your hidden talent?
“A-buttoning.” If you’ve ever played the Super Tecmo Bowl game on the original Nintento (the last truly great video game), when you’ve got the ball and someone tries to tackle you, the battle comes down to who can repeatedly push the A button faster. I’m the fastest. Lengendarily fast…Yes, legendarily is a word.
