Greystone by the Numbers is an admittedly convoluted way to introduce you to another side of our team! These brief “interviews” begin by putting everyone’s name in a numbered list and a number randomizer is used to pick 4 “chosen ones” each month. After those four have been chosen, they select 5 numbers from 1 to 65, each corresponding to a question which was unbeknownst to them. What happens next…is for your reading pleasure.

What is the unhealthiest thing you have eaten?
Hmmm…I’d say it’s a toss-up between the deep-friend Twinkie I tried once and anything I ever consumed at McDonalds.
Where would you like to go that is “off the beaten path?”
Such a great question! A couple of years ago, my wife and I visited Mesa Verde National Park and I fell in love with that place, and the way history is so well preserved there. I’ve heard that there are slot canyons and hidden places in the Southwest desert where there are still largely undisturbed cliff dwellings. I would go to great lengths to experience an undisturbed cliff dwelling. I would LOVE that…
What was the last song you sung in your car?
Like where I got into and really sang loudly? Probably “Kingdom of Rust” by Doves.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Oh gosh…so many…I’m actually pretty embarrassed by my inability to resist Facebook click bait headlines…like those under “Trending” in the top right of the page. Or the cutesy animal photos…I have a hard time resisting those, too.
Name 3 things in nature that you find most beautiful.
Sight: Vast and expansive views where humans look tiny and small..like this image by my friend Matt Trappe.
Sound: Rushing water. One of my favorite things about fly-fishing is standing in a river where the only sound is the water rushing by…
Smell: That particularly earthy, woodsy, pine-forest smell you get on a trail high in the Rocky Mountains on a warm, sunny afternoon.

A wild imagination.
What is your favorite activity/hobby?
I always struggle with favorites, so here are my top three: backpacking, Ultimate (frisbee that is), and beering .
What monsters did you believe lived under the bed when you were little?
I had nothing but Legos under my bed, however, I did have one nightmare about the ROUS in Princess Bride.
What was the last book you read and how was it?
The last book I read was the Audacity of Hops by Tom Acitelli. It’s about the history of the craft beer revolution. An interesting read for sure, you’ll learn a lot about the folks at Anchor Brewing. Overall, it was kind of dry, but not hopped.
If you had $5M, what would you do with it?
I’d open up a brewery and have someone really good at brewing make the beer while I wander off into the woods for long periods of time. Then I would return for free beer between adventures.

What is the unhealthiest thing you have eaten?
Zebra cakes. When I was a teenager, I would sit around and play video games and eat Zebra cakes all day.
What is your favorite lie that you have ever told?
I lied about my qualifications to get my first IT job, years ago, and that got me where I am today.
What would you do if you were invisible for a day?
I would definitely have to sneak into the white house and steal Obama’s toothbrush (just to mess with him).
What part of pop culture do you wish would just go away?
Kanye West, and the Kardashians/Jenners.
What is one of your pet peeves?
When somebody says “Can I ask you a question,” every time they ask me a question.

Would you rather live for 6 months in a light house, accessible only by a 3 mile boat ride, or live for 6 months in the most crowded room of a youth hostel?
During my early twenties through early thirties, I played in different bands that traveled the country in crowded buses. Most often, there were 10-12 of us in there for months at a stretch. Imagine if you will, the chaos, noice, and body funk emanating from that bus, and you might not be surprised that I would choose the remote light house in a second.
What scares you in the dark?
I used to be afraid of the things that go bump in the night, but my real worries nowadays all center around the eventuality of my wife ripping the covers off me during her sleep. Once in her clutches, those covers are gone, baby, gone.
What is your favorite season and why?
I’m a sucker for the colors, smells, and shortening days of fall. It always marks the end of the summer, but also the beginning of things. I like the bittersweetness.
Where were you born?
I was born in Minneapolis, MN, where the two seasons are winter and road construction. I can’t have a bumper sticker that says “NATIVE” now that I’ve moved to Colorado. If I could find one that says, “REFUGEE FROM MINNESOTA” I would put that on with pride.
Where would you like to go that is “off the beaten path?”
I’ve always wanted to go to the Hebrides, the wild islands off the coast of Scotland. I mean, look at this place, it’s magical!
