Career & Culture: It’s Fall Time

WIMDI Event September 20th in Fort Collins

As part of our diversity and inclusion initiatives, Greystone sponsors a women’s leadership group. It’s called WIMDI, which is an acronym for Women in Male-Dominated Industries. On September 20th, women from Greystone with their friends and clients participated in a workshop in Ft. Collins as part of this leadership group. The presenter was Maureen Berkner Boyt, who wrote ‘Rock your Moxie,’ a book series and leadership company that uncovers the fundamentals that generate powerful momentum for women leading the way. Some key takeaways:

  • Create a five-year plan that can be funneled into smaller goals to be the launch pad of achieving the biggest dreams we have for our lives.
  • Be positive. Being an optimistic person has a huge impact. When people enjoy being around you, you bring a lot to the table and make other people feel valued.

Stay tuned for more insights that we learned from the event that we’ll share in a later blog post!

Book Club

Book Daring Greatly

Anyone who has watched a Brene Brown Ted Talk understands the power behind her message of vulnerability. For our October Book Club, we’re reading her book Daring Greatly, and I’m excited about how this book aligns with the culture we have at Greystone.

Part of what we’re always working on is creating an environment where failure is normalized, and people can talk about what’s going on vs. what they think should be going on. We want to work in a place where issues and concerns are brought up in the meeting instead of whispered about after the meeting. We want to be the type of people who don’t say anything about someone that we wouldn’t say to them directly. Working somewhere that candor and honesty are the norms? Talk about feeling vulnerable. But it’s also incredibly powerful – you can have an honest picture of how you’re doing, how people feel about what you’re doing, and your overall success. These are things I’ve been puzzled about in the past that I’m not anymore, and I think that’s one of the things that makes Greystone special.
